I’m an author and I’m currently writing my fourth novel. I also give talks on the subject of romance – personal, historical or just fun.

Although I live on the coast and love to do so, I find spending time in the mountains refreshing, and always come away from a visit with lots of new ideas. So how could I write a novel and not set a part of it in the mountains?

The events in Then The Earth Moved unfold in the Abruzzo region of Italy: https://www.italyheritage.com/regions/abruzzo in a small hill town called Fortezza del Tronto, where interior designer, Isla Bruni arrives to take up a post in an Italian Design studio.

Then The Earth Moved was published in March 2023 by The Wild Rose Press https://wildrosepress.com/

Copies of the book are available from the usual platforms and bookstores, and I have been thrilled by some of the reviews.

Here’s one from Book Blogger, Anne Williams https://beinganne.com/ :

Welsh Annie

An engaging romance, a wonderful setting, and plenty of drama – I loved it!

And she awarded it five stars.

I take inspiration from the many stories of strong, intelligent young women who have to fight to achieve their potential, often because of home circumstances or things that have happened in their life – and there are so many women in this situation.

Perhaps the greatest inspiration for the books was the original Mary Georgina, my great-great-grandmother. Daughter of an aristocrat and politician, she married the coachman.

Oh, so-o romantic – her story just begs to be told.

As these are romances, the main female character inevitably juggles her hopes and ambitions with falling in love – and must find a way to make things work out. Just to make it more difficult, she’s exploring a new country and culture and there are usually problems in her past which she must tackle if she is to succeed.

So many people dismiss romance writing out of hand. I feel very strongly about this, particularly as these people are rarely reading anything more literary.
